‘The problems this season are clear,’ Ancelotti said. ‘We lost two key players in defence and that hurts us. We had to adapt to different players, which makes it difficult to find the right balance.’

‘Hopefully we’re there now. If not, we’ll find it hard to win anything.’

Ancelotti also reveal that both Kylian Mbappe and Ferland Mendy are still out of Wednesday’s trip to Getafe but are hopeful they will be fit in time for Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

‘They’re not ready yet, but they’ll be back in training in the next few days. I think they’ll fit on Saturday.’

Asked about the boos and criticism aimed at Mbappe, the French coach defended the 26-year-old forward, saying: ‘He is not happy because he wants to help the team. He is doing everything possible to recover and play on Saturday.’
